Drought Affects Road Conditions
Country drivers would be aware of the hazards caused by wildlife and stock on our country roads, however, those who are unfamiliar with country road conditions may not be aware of the dangers. Much of New South Wales has now been declared drought stricken. Animals can be attracted to the vegetation on roadsides and in drought conditions this may be the only available food source.
When driving in country areas, be aware that there may be animals moving across and alongside the road, particularly at sunset and sunrise. Apart from the obvious danger to the animals and to the driver's safety, significant damage to the vehicle can be caused on impact.
